You are the owner of a traditional oak framed, or ‘black and white’ structure. It is almost certainly over 300 years old, probably listed for its architectural and historic interest and may well by now be showing signs of wear and tear. You may be wanting to extend or alter the building in some way, or you may simply wish to patch it up so that it continues to serve a function for a few more years. Whatever the work you wish to undertake, you want this work undertaken by someone who understands these structures and respects their inherent qualities.
We have prepared this guidance so that you, the owner will understand a little about the way your building was originally put together, and about the way we, as architects, tackle any work proposed.
